Quick answer
St. George is the hub of Washington County: red rock scenery, mild winters, golf and trails, and the widest range of homes in the area, from townhomes to gated luxury communities. The tradeoff is genuinely hot summers and housing that costs more than the national average. If sunshine and outdoor living are high on your list, it's worth a serious look, and I'm happy to answer any questions with no pressure.

Thinking about moving to St. George?
If you're reading this, you're probably weighing a move to Southern Utah and trying to figure out what life here is really like. That's exactly the question I help relocation buyers and retirees answer every week.
St. George is the largest city in Washington County, set among red rock cliffs in Utah's southwest corner. People come for the mild winters, the sunshine, the golf and trails, and easy access to places like Snow Canyon State Park and Zion. They also have to adjust to genuinely hot summers and a housing market that has changed a lot over the past several years.
In this guide I'll walk you through neighborhoods, costs, schools, weather and things to do, and I'll try to be honest about the tradeoffs. The Census Bureau estimates St. George had 108,713 residents on July 1, 2025, up 14.0% since 2020.
What are the best neighborhoods in St. George?
"Best" depends entirely on how you want to live. Here are a few areas buyers ask me about most often:
Stone Cliff
A gated community on a bluff southeast of downtown with city and red rock views, custom homes, and quick access to services.
Entrada at Snow Canyon
An 800-acre gated golf and wellness community near Snow Canyon State Park. Club membership is required for every homeowner.
Green Valley & Sunbrook
Established west-side neighborhoods close to golf and trails, with a mix of custom and semi-custom homes.
The Ledges
North of town near Snow Canyon, with golf, larger homes and expansive views at higher elevations.
Desert Color
A newer master-planned community on the south side near I-15 with resort-style amenities and a 55+ section.
SunRiver St. George
Active adult (55+) community established in 1998 with an 18-hole course and 60+ clubs. Median sold price about $529,500 in Sept 2026 (Flexmls).
Also nearby: Kayenta in Ivins, plus Santa Clara, Washington and Hurricane, each with a different feel. Ask me about other areas, too. Every part of town has its own feel.
